Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has signed an agreement to develop a 151-key Taj hotel on the East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The property will be a greenfield project, adding to the company's growing presence in the city.
Chennai's hospitality sector is supported by a strong corporate base, the automobile industry, and a thriving IT ecosystem. The city also sees a steady flow of leisure travellers and a rising number of business events under the MICE segment. IHCL aims to leverage this diverse demand by expanding its portfolio in a strategic location.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President of Real Estate and Development at IHCL, stated that the company is pleased to collaborate with MGM Healthcare for this project, highlighting a partnership approach in strengthening its hotel network.
With the new addition, IHCL's presence in Chennai will reach 16 hotels, including six properties currently under development. This expansion reinforces the company's strategy to serve both business and leisure travellers in one of South India's most important hospitality markets.
