Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to expedite road repairs and pothole-filling works across the state ahead of the upcoming festival season. With over 6.78 lakh roads covering approximately 4.33 lakh km, authorities aim to ensure all major roads are restored to good condition before festivals like Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath. The Public Works Department (PWD) has made significant progress, with 84.82% of road renovation works completed on 31,514 km, while other departments are also working to improve road conditions.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to expedite road repair and pothole-filling works across the state ahead of the upcoming festival season. In a high-level meeting, he emphasized the importance of making highways, expressways, urban, and rural roads travel-worthy to prevent public inconvenience during festivals such as Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath.

Officials reported that of the total 678,301 roads spanning approximately 432,989 km in the state, 44,196 km have been identified for the pothole-free drive. As of now, 21.67% progress has been achieved in this initiative. The Chief Minister has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to complete surveys and submit an action plan by September 30.

Regarding road renovation works, the PWD has achieved 84.82% progress on 31,514 km of roads, with restoration and special repair of 2,750 km also underway. Other departments have made varying progress: Rural Development at 62.99%, Urban Development at 35.50%, and Infrastructure and Industrial Development at 48.77%.

During the review, officials noted that 649 routes are in satisfactory condition, while 114 roads remain unsatisfactory. The Chief Minister has ordered immediate repairs to these unsatisfactory roads to ensure smooth traffic flow, warning that laxity will not be tolerated.

Adityanath also cautioned municipal bodies to ensure the timely and transparent execution of infrastructure works, stating that otherwise, the powers of mayors would be reconsidered. He directed immediate clearance of dues owed to Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). Emphasizing accountability, transparency, and timely completion, the Chief Minister insisted on daily monitoring of works, with regular reports sent to the government.

The meeting also discussed the proposed North-South Corridor, which aims to connect districts from the Nepal border to the southern end of Uttar Pradesh, further enhancing the state's road infrastructure.
