The initiatives are part of around 300 ROB and RUB projects across Karnataka funded by the central government. Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, the state has modernized six additional stations with INR 2,000 crore funding. Somanna also shared updates on the Belagavi-Dharwad railway line and hinted at a potential sleeper coach Vande Bharat train between Belagavi and Bengaluru to address public demand.

Union Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna, laid foundation stones for two crucial railway infrastructure projects in Belagavi, Karnataka. The first project is a Road Under Bridge at the Fourth Railway Gate in Anagol, while the second is at the Khanapur Railway Station Yard. These projects aim to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance overall connectivity in the region.

Somanna highlighted that Karnataka has around 300 ongoing ROB and RUB projects, including several in Belagavi, Hubballi, and Dharwad, all funded by the central government. Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, the state has increased its modernized railway stations from 61 to 66, with central funding of INR 2,000 crore. Specific upgrades in Belagavi include INR 18.5 crore for Ghataprabha, INR 18.6 crore for Raibag, INR 15 crore for Belagavi, and INR 17 crore for Gokak.

Regarding the Belagavi-Dharwad railway line via Kittur, tenders have been floated. Land acquisition in Belagavi is complete, while 45 acres remain pending in Dharwad due to technical challenges. The project has been allocated INR 937 crore, and work is expected to begin soon. Somanna mentioned ongoing efforts to coordinate with local authorities to resolve pending issues.

In response to public demand, Somanna suggested the possibility of a sleeper coach Vande Bharat train between Belagavi and Bengaluru. The recent Vande Bharat service had faced criticism over timing, prompting the consideration of revised scheduling or additional services.

The events were attended by political leaders including Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, Karwar MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi, MLA Abhay Patil, and senior railway officials.
