Serentica Renewables, an independent power producer established in 2022, is preparing to expand its renewable capacity from 1 GW at present to 7.5 GW by late 2027. The plan includes 3 GW of government-backed projects, making up 40 per cent of its overall target. In the current financial year, the company has secured power purchase agreements and a Letter of Award totalling 650 MW with NTPC, SECI, NHPC, and SJVN. These projects will come up across Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Serentica also continues to work towards its 2030 goal of 17 GW with storage-linked clean energy solutions.
Serentica Renewables has outlined plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 7.5 GW by the end of 2027. This will be achieved by adding 6.5 GW to its present operational capacity of 1 GW. Out of this planned capacity, 3 GW will come from projects floated by government-owned Renewable Energy Implementation Agencies, meaning government utilities will contribute close to 40 per cent of Serentica's total commissioned portfolio.
During the first five months of the ongoing financial year, the company signed three power purchase agreements and received one Letter of Award, together amounting to 650 MW. These were secured under the FDRE framework with leading government utilities. The agreements include a 200 MW solar-wind-storage peak power project with NTPC, a 100 MW FDRE-IV load-following project with SECI, and a 150 MW hybrid peak power project with NHPC. In addition, SJVN awarded a Letter of Award for a 200 MW time-block-based supply for the April to August period.
The projects tied to these agreements are to be developed in states such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The company said that these auction wins underline its capability to deliver large-scale renewable projects that align with India's clean energy goals at affordable prices.
Serentica, which began operations in 2022, focuses on providing dispatchable renewable energy for industries that are harder to decarbonise. Looking beyond its 2027 plan, the company has a broader target of 17 GW of operational capacity by 2030. This includes combining renewable generation with storage solutions such as pumped storage projects and battery energy storage systems. Serentica aims to supply more than 50 billion units of clean power annually by 2030, which could offset nearly 47 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
The company has also committed to step-up renewable installations in phases. It has projects under development that will take its installed capacity to 3.5 GW by 2025, supported by investments in wind, solar and hybrid systems. In addition, Serentica has previously announced large investments for projects in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, strengthening its long-term expansion strategy.
