The Prime Minister visited Madhya Pradesh on his birthday and laid the foundation for a PM MITRA textile park in Dhar district. This will be the second time he spent his birthday in the state, following the release of cheetahs at Kuno National Park under Project Cheetah last year. The textile hub will be set up at Bhensola village in Badnawar tehsil and is expected to attract significant investments. With proposals of more than INR 12,500 crore already received, the project is designed to boost employment, strengthen the textile supply chain, and support cotton farmers in the region.
The Prime Minister marked his 75th birthday with a visit to Madhya Pradesh, where he laid the foundation for a PM MITRA textile park in Dhar district. Officials confirmed that the park will be established at Bhensola village under Badnawar tehsil, making it one of the largest integrated textile hubs planned under the scheme. This was his second birthday visit to the state. On the same date last year, he had released cheetahs from Namibia into the Kuno National Park in Sheopur district under Project Cheetah, the world's first inter-continental wild carnivore translocation project.
The PM MITRA initiative, launched by the central government, aims to set up modern textile manufacturing hubs that cover the entire value chain, from raw cotton to ready-made apparel. The scheme is designed to provide advanced infrastructure, reduce logistics costs, and improve global competitiveness.
Recent developments show rising investor interest. According to state officials, more than 15 companies have put forward investment proposals exceeding INR 12,500 crore, with an estimated potential to create over 18,000 jobs. The Dhar project, planned over more than 2,100 acres, is expected to be the country's largest PM MITRA park. International brands such as Hanesbrands and PVH Corp have already shown intent to participate.
To support industry participation, the state government has offered benefits including concessional land allotment, competitive tariffs for power and water, and faster clearances. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed with the Brand & Sourcing Leaders' Association to promote the "Farm to Fashion" model, ensuring better returns for farmers and linking them directly to textile markets.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also took part in activities connected with "seva pakhwada," the service fortnight that runs from his birthday until Gandhi Jayanti. This programme, organised annually by the Bharatiya Janata Party, includes various social and community service initiatives across the country.
The textile park project is expected to bring large-scale employment, increase industrial activity in the Malwa region, and enhance Madhya Pradesh's position in India's textile sector. Cotton growers in the state are likely to gain from stronger market linkages and new opportunities created by the hub.
