Synopsis

Gautam Solar has announced an investment of INR 4,000 crore to establish a 5 GW solar-cell manufacturing facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The plant, spread over 54 acres, will focus on advanced TOPCon solar-cell technology. Work has already started with Phase 1, which will provide 2 GW of capacity, while the second phase will add 3 GW after a planned IPO. The project is targeted for completion by calendar year 2026. Alongside cell production, the company is also planning to expand into wafer manufacturing to create a complete solar value chain in India.

Gautam Solar has confirmed that it will invest INR 4,000 crore in setting up a solar-cell manufacturing facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The project will be developed across 54 acres and is designed for a total planned capacity of 5 GW using advanced TOPCon technology.

According to the company, implementation has already begun with Phase 1, which will add 2 GW of solar-cell capacity. The full project is scheduled to be completed by calendar year 2026. Once the first phase is operational, the company intends to raise funds through an IPO to support Phase 2, which will add an additional 3 GW.

In the longer term, Gautam Solar is planning to expand into wafer manufacturing, aiming to build a fully integrated solar production chain within India. The company has stated that this project will support India's clean-energy targets while also strengthening the domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.

Company director Gautam Mohanka noted that with one of the largest solar-cell manufacturing units in India based on TOPCon technology, the aim is to increase local capacity and reduce dependence on imported solar components. He further explained that the company's vision includes building an integrated supply chain in India, ranging from wafers to modules, while contributing to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Gautam Solar currently operates multiple manufacturing facilities across India. At present, the company has a solar-module production capacity of 3.2 GWp, which it plans to expand to 5 GWp by FY 2025-26. This project adds to its earlier growth strategy, where it had announced expansions to strengthen its position in both solar module and solar cell manufacturing.

The company believes that this new facility in Madhya Pradesh will play an important role in reducing reliance on imports, advancing domestic production, and supporting the country's broader clean-energy transition.
