NTPC has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to explore and develop energy projects in both conventional and renewable sectors. The agreement, signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, will focus on thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power initiatives. NTPC, which supplies nearly one-fourth of India's electricity, has an installed capacity of over 83 GW and 30.9 GW under construction. The company aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032 and has expanded into electric mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro, waste-to-energy, nuclear, and green hydrogen solutions, supporting sustainable energy growth.
NTPC Ltd, India's largest integrated power utility, has entered into an initial agreement with the Gujarat government to explore opportunities in both conventional and renewable energy sectors. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat's Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Kanubhai Desai, along with other senior officials.
The agreement, signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Mehsana, aims to jointly identify and develop energy projects, covering thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power generation. NTPC currently meets nearly one-fourth of India's electricity demand and has an installed capacity of over 83 GW. The company is also constructing an additional 30.9 GW of capacity, which includes 13.3 GW from renewable energy sources.
Over the years, NTPC has steadily expanded its renewable energy portfolio and is committed to reaching 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032, supporting India's broader net zero carbon emission goals. The company has also diversified into newer areas, including electric mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy projects, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions. These initiatives are aimed at complementing its conventional power operations while supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
With its diverse portfolio of thermal, hydro, solar, and wind assets, NTPC focuses on delivering reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity to the nation. The agreement with Gujarat reinforces its strategy of partnering with state governments to explore innovative energy solutions and strengthen India's overall energy security.
