Synopsis

The Nabadiganta Metro Station in New Town has started operations, opening an 11m x 130m road stretch that was blocked since July last year. This move significantly improves traffic flow for airport-bound vehicles passing through the Technopolis area. While Salt Lake-bound traffic still faces diversions due to ongoing construction of the station's commercial zone, the completed concourse, platforms, and roof of the station mark a major milestone. The remaining northern section will be constructed once traffic management permissions are obtained, ensuring smoother movement in future.

The Nabadiganta Metro Station in New Town has officially opened, allowing airport-bound traffic to move smoothly along the previously blocked 11m x 130m road stretch. This section had been closed since July last year, causing considerable congestion in the Technopolis area. The completion of this stretch marks an important step in the progress of the Orange Line of the New Garia-Airport corridor, being executed by RVNL.

The station's concourse slab, platforms, and platform roof have been completed, enabling track installation at most of the station. However, a 60m section at the northern end will be constructed once a traffic block is granted at the Sector V-Biswa Bangla Sarani crossing. Officials confirmed that traffic flow will improve as airport-bound vehicles can now move straight through New Town, reducing previous congestion.

To facilitate the construction of the station's commercial space, another 11m x 130m area on the western side of the station has been barricaded, with the local police approving this arrangement. Salt Lake-bound traffic will continue to follow a diversion, turning left and moving along the service road in front of the Technopolis building for the next five to six months. After this period, the diverted lane will reopen, allowing all vehicles to move straight in both directions without any obstruction.
