Synopsis

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has extended its property tax amnesty scheme until the end of October, offering a 50% discount on penalty charges. Originally launched in mid-July as the 'Freedom From Penalty' scheme, it provided higher waivers and helped recover around INR 100 crore in outstanding dues. Initially limited to residential properties, the scheme now includes commercial and industrial units. The civic body has urged property owners to settle their dues ahead of a strict collection drive planned after the amnesty period, reinforcing tax compliance and revenue generation.

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has decided to extend its property tax amnesty scheme until the end of October, providing a 50% discount on penalty charges. The move is aimed at encouraging property owners to clear pending dues before the authorities initiate a strict enforcement drive.

The scheme, named 'Freedom From Penalty,' was first launched in mid-July with a 95% waiver on penalty charges for one-time settlement of dues. It was initially scheduled to end in August but was later extended to mid-September with a 75% waiver, due to strong response from property owners. So far, the initiative has helped the municipal corporation recover approximately INR 100 crore in outstanding property taxes.

Originally, the amnesty scheme was applicable only to residential properties. Recognizing the need to widen revenue collection, authorities later included commercial and industrial properties under the scheme. Municipal Commissioner G Shreekanth highlighted that citizens' response has been positive in earlier phases, prompting the further extension till October-end.

Civic authorities have stressed that once the amnesty period concludes, a rigorous drive will be undertaken to collect remaining dues before the end of the current financial year. They have urged property owners to take advantage of the extended period to settle payments and avoid potential legal or enforcement actions.
