Synopsis

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has stated that the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP), connecting southern Mizoram to the Bay of Bengal through Myanmar, is expected to be completed by 2027. The project includes maritime, river, and road transport routes, aiming to boost regional connectivity and trade. Construction of the Mizoram road section has been completed but commissioning is pending due to compensation issues. The ongoing extension of the railway line to Hmawngbuchhuah will further strengthen connectivity. The CM also highlighted the importance of tribal unity and cultural harmony in Mizoram.

Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma has announced that the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) is scheduled for completion by 2027. The project, implemented jointly by India and Myanmar, is designed to connect southern Mizoram with the Bay of Bengal through Myanmar, enhancing regional trade, transport, and overall economic development.

The KMMTTP includes a 539 km maritime corridor that links Kolkata Port in India with Sittwe Port in Myanmar. From Sittwe, goods are transported via the Kaladan River to Paletwa in Myanmar, ensuring an integrated river transport route. A 110 km road within Myanmar connects Paletwa to the India-Myanmar border, while an 87.18 km road on the Mizoram side links the border to Lawngtlai in southern Mizoram.

Construction of the Mizoram road section has been completed, but commissioning has been delayed due to compensation-related issues, according to Public Works Department officials.

In addition to the KMMTTP, the railway extension to Hmawngbuchhuah, located near the Myanmar border, is progressing steadily. This extension will connect southern Mizoram more effectively to India's national railway network, improving the transportation of goods and passengers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bairabi-Sairang railway line, which connects Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, with Silchar town in Assam. This project has been an important milestone in enhancing connectivity for Mizoram and complements the ongoing infrastructure development efforts in the state.

Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma also emphasized the importance of unity among Mizoram's diverse tribal communities. He called on people to respect each other's traditions, languages, and cultures, and expressed strong opposition to any form of separatism or alienation within the Zo ethnic groups. His statements highlighted the need for collective social and economic progress alongside the state's infrastructure growth.
