Once operational, the 84 km Munger-Bhagalpur-Sabour route will serve as a vital corridor, easing congestion and enhancing tourism with scenic Ganga-side travel.

Bihar is set to begin development of three significant road projects along the Ganga River, with an estimated total cost of INR 17,000 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity, economic activity, and tourism.

The projects planned under the hybrid annuity model (HAM) include Digha-Sherpur-Bihta-Koilwar (35.65 km), Munger (Safiabad)-Bariyarpur-Ghorghat-Sultanganj (42 km), and Sultanganj-Bhagalpur-Sabour (41.33 km). Under HAM, the government finances roughly 40% of the project cost, while private developers cover the remaining 60%, operating the roads for a concession period and receiving annuity payments from the state.

The Sultanganj-Bhagalpur Gangapath project will be constructed at an estimated cost of INR 4,849.83 crore, while the Munger-Sultanganj Gangapath is pegged at INR 5,119.80 crore. The Digha-Sherpur-Bihta-Koilwar road will have an estimated cost of INR 6,495.79 crore. These roads, running parallel to the Ganga, are expected to enhance tourism by offering scenic travel routes.

The tendering process for all three roads has been completed, and letters of acceptance have already been issued. Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar is scheduled to inaugurate one of the projects shortly.

Once completed, the approximately 84 km Munger-Bhagalpur-Sabour route will become a crucial corridor connecting major cities such as Munger, Sultanganj, and Bhagalpur. The road network is expected to significantly reduce travel time, serve as a ring road for Bhagalpur and Munger, and ease traffic congestion.
