The six-lane flyover connecting Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema in northeast Delhi has finally opened after a 16-month delay caused by tree clearance issues. Constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD), the 1.55-km flyover, 22 meters wide, is expected to benefit over 100,000 daily commuters by providing a signal-free route and reducing travel time by roughly 14 minutes. The project is part of 77 government road interventions to ease congestion in Delhi and includes aesthetic enhancements, U-turns, and upgraded junctions to improve traffic flow and connectivity.
The six-lane flyover connecting Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema in northeast Delhi has been inaugurated after a 16-month delay, mainly due to issues in securing clearance for 27 trees. The flyover, built by the Public Works Department (PWD), had faced a 16-month delay, primarily due to issues in securing clearance for 27 trees.
The flyover spans 1,550 meters in length and 22 meters in width, serving as a key link between Ghaziabad and Wazirabad through the Signature Bridge. It is expected to provide smoother connectivity for commuters traveling to Ghaziabad, Seemapuri, and surrounding areas, benefiting over 100,000 people daily. The new structure has made the Nand Nagri and Gagan Cinema junctions completely signal-free, saving vehicles approximately 14 minutes when crossing the stretch.
The design incorporates six U-turns along the 1.5-km stretch, with the first near Nand Nagri police station and two back-to-back U-turns 500 meters ahead, aimed at improving traffic flow. To enhance the corridor?s aesthetics, mural work will be implemented beneath the flyover, and the two traffic junctions under it will be upgraded.
This flyover is part of a broader initiative by the Delhi government to address urban congestion through 77 targeted road interventions. It reflects an ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure, reducing commuting time, and enhancing accessibility in the trans-Yamuna region and the city at large.
