Synopsis

Tripura Chief Minister Shri Manik Saha has said that damaged stretches of national highways in the state will be repaired on priority once the monsoon season withdraws. The stretches from Mohanpur to Khowai and Khowai to Kamalpur have deteriorated badly, creating difficulties for commuters and drawing public criticism. The CM mentioned that he had already discussed the issue with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who had sent a team to assess the situation. Saha also spoke about the overall progress in road and rail connectivity in the state under the central government.

Tripura currently has six national highways, and several sections have been facing severe damage, especially the routes between Mohanpur and Khowai, and Khowai to Kamalpur. The poor condition of these stretches has been a long-standing issue for residents and has led to public discontent. Chief Minister Shri Manik Saha said that these stretches will be repaired on an urgent basis after the monsoon, pointing out that the work could not be carried out during the rainy season.

The Chief Minister explained that he had already raised the matter with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who sent a central team to inspect the ground reality. He added that once the weather improves, repair works will be carried out quickly and thoroughly. According to him, most national highways in Tripura are currently in good condition, but a few stretches need immediate attention.

Highlighting broader infrastructure improvements, the CM said that Tripura has seen significant growth in road connectivity under the present central government. He also spoke about the rise in railway services in the state, saying that he now prefers to travel by train for visits to districts such as North Tripura and Unakoti. During recent Durga Puja inaugurations, he traveled to Dharmanagar and Kailashahar by train, something he noted would not have been possible in earlier times. He linked these improvements to central government initiatives.

Saha also mentioned that he has been actively inaugurating Durga Pujas across the state and intends to continue, despite his demanding schedule. According to him, this outreach reflects both infrastructure progress and closer connections between governance and local communities.

Tripura has historically faced challenges in maintaining road infrastructure, with heavy rains often damaging highways and delaying repair work. This year's plan to launch repairs immediately after the monsoon could help reduce long-standing transport issues if followed through consistently.
