Synopsis

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been placed 39th in the latest OAG Megahubs 2025 rankings, down from its 24th position last year. The airport now records 16,178 possible connections and serves 157 destinations worldwide. In the low-cost carrier (LCC) category, IGIA stands at 11th place globally, while Mumbai's airport has secured the 14th position. Despite the fall in global rank, IGIA continues to be the top megahub in South Asia. The rankings are based on flight data between September 2023 and August 2024.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has slipped to the 39th position in the OAG Megahubs 2025 rankings, a drop from the 24th place it held in the previous edition. The annual study evaluates global connectivity across airports, considering the number of potential flight connections within defined timeframes.

The analysis uses flight data from the 100 largest airports, both overall and international, covering the period between September 2023 and August 2024. Scheduled seats form the basis of the study, and connectivity is calculated by considering all possible inbound and outbound flights within a six-hour window. For an airport to qualify, at least one of the flights either inbound or outbound must be international.

IGIA offers 16,178 connections and is linked to 157 destinations across the globe. It has also secured the 11th spot in the global low-cost carrier (LCC) hubs category. Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport appears in this list as well, holding the 14th position among the top 25 airports. In the South Asia region, IGIA remains the leading megahub despite its fall in global rankings.

Globally, London Heathrow Airport has taken the top spot in the Megahubs 2025 list, followed by Istanbul Airport in second place and Amsterdam Schiphol in third. The rest of the top ten include Kuala Lumpur, Frankfurt, Seoul Incheon, Chicago O'Hare, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Tokyo Haneda, and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The findings point to a competitive landscape where European and Asian hubs dominate the top rankings. Delhi's position shows both its continued strength in the South Asian market and the challenges it faces to maintain or improve global standing.
