Maharashtra's government approved a substantial investment to upgrade land survey operations and bolster revenue department facilities. It was indicated that over INR 1,700 crore would be allocated, with a portion dedicated to acquiring advanced rovers to accelerate digital land surveying under the e-Survey 2.0 initiative. At the same time, the remainder is earmarked for the construction of new office premises and residences for officials. The aim is to enhance efficiency, ensure more accurate land record processing, and provide timely digital access to land maps for citizens.
The Maharashtra government recently sanctioned INR 1,732 crore to modernise land survey processes and enhance the infrastructure of the revenue and land records departments. According to multiple reports, INR 132 crore would be directed towards procuring 1,200 advanced rovers to expedite land measurement under the e-Survey 2.0 initiative. Additionally, INR 1,600 crore has been earmarked for constructing new office buildings and residential quarters for revenue officials.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister approved the proposal, with the revenue minister explaining that the rovers would substantially speed up the survey process. It was highlighted that these vehicles would facilitate the timely delivery of digital 'C' copies of land maps to citizens. Moreover, placing land records offices closer to collectorates was recommended to streamline departmental operations.
Instructions were reportedly issued for the immediate commencement of the rover procurement process and to finish the pending Registration Bhavan project in Pune within the current month.
The rollout of e-Survey 2.0 and the new infrastructure is expected to strengthen departmental responsiveness and public service delivery. Overall, the initiative signals a forward-looking approach toward resolving land record challenges and streamlining revenue operations across the state.
