Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a major power utility in North Delhi, has formalised a partnership with Magna Yuma Private Limited to establish battery swapping stations for electric vehicles. Under the signed agreement, Tata Power-DDL will provide space at its substations, while Magna Yuma will manage the design, installation, and maintenance of the infrastructure. This alliance aims to boost the electric mobility ecosystem, particularly benefiting commercial two-wheeler users and gig workers. The collaboration aligns with broader sustainability goals and initiatives to promote clean transportation and reduce power theft.
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), which caters to the electricity needs of approximately nine million people in North Delhi, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Magna Yuma Private Limited, a service provider in battery swapping, to develop Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Swapping Stations within its operational regions. As per the terms of the partnership, Tata Power-DDL will allocate specific areas at its substations to facilitate the establishment of battery swapping stations. Magna Yuma will handle the design, procurement, installation, and ongoing maintenance of these stations. The agreement was signed in the presence of senior leadership from both organisations, including the CEO of Tata Power-DDL, Dwijadas Basak, along with Kiran Gupta, Praveen Agrawal, Raj Kumar Rastogi, and Surender Singh. The primary objective of the collaboration is to create a reliable and efficient EV ecosystem, particularly supporting commercial electric two-wheelers operating within the gig economy. By leveraging Tata Power-DDL's infrastructure and Magna Yuma's battery-swapping technology, the project aims to accelerate the uptake of sustainable transport solutions across Delhi. In addition to mitigating environmental concerns like air and noise pollution, the initiative is expected to provide improved income opportunities for delivery workers and gig partners.
Dwijadas Basak expressed that Tata Power-DDL welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with Magna Yuma in broadening Delhi's battery-swapping network. He noted that the partnership reflects the company's commitment to promoting sustainable energy and mobility while also enhancing the livelihoods of young citizens through the gig economy.
Initially, Magna Yuma is set to install two battery-swapping stations at Tata Power-DDL's grid substations located in Shalimar Bagh and Badli.
By combining Tata Power-DDL's extensive grid presence with Magna Yuma's operational capabilities, the collaboration addresses urban mobility challenges while contributing to the city's sustainability targets. The battery-swapping stations, starting with installations in Shalimar Bagh and Badli, will provide essential support to gig workers and delivery services, fostering a cleaner, more efficient transport ecosystem and offering potential reductions in operational costs and power theft.
