Synopsis

Nxtra by Airtel today announced a new agreement to source an additional 125.65 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy from AMPIN Energy. This latest deal brings the total renewable energy partnership between the two companies to over 200 MW. The additional capacity, a solar-wind hybrid, will be supplied from plants in Rajasthan and Karnataka through the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). This move reinforces Nxtra's commitment to power its data centers sustainably and aligns with its pledge to source 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, contributing to greener data center operations across India.

Nxtra by Airtel today announced a new agreement to source an additional 125.65 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy from AMPIN Energy. This latest deal significantly expands the renewable energy partnership between the two companies, with their total collaboration now exceeding 200 MW.

Nxtra, a key player in the data center space, confirmed that the agreement involves 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid energy. This power will be sourced through plants connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS), which allows for the transfer of electricity across different states. The additional capacity will be delivered to Nxtra in two phases, coming from captive solar-wind power projects located in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, stated that this achievement showed their leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy to power their facilities sustainably, which boosts reliability and has a real climate impact. Nxtra joined the global RE100 initiative in June of last year, pledging to source 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources.

AMPIN Energy Transition, which previously supplied solar power to Nxtra through intra-state open access in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, will now expand its reach. With this new agreement, AMPIN will add 11 new states to its supply network and introduce new technologies, including large-scale ISTS renewable energy supply and seamless power delivery from a single Independent Power Producer (IPP).

Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD and CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, said that this partnership showed they could help any customer achieve a nearly 100 percent energy transition through a smooth mix of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy solutions and a presence across India. He added that Nxtra by Airtel, a leader in the data and data center space, shared their vision for sustainability, and they were proud to make data centers green through this collaboration. This push for green data centers is crucial as data consumption and digital services continue to grow rapidly across India.
