Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has served disconnection notices to more than eight hundred households for unauthorised extensions and encroachments around electrical infrastructure. The company stated that such violations, including protruding balconies, boundary walls and building extensions, are in breach of statutory safety norms and pose severe risks. Homeowners have been directed to remove the offending structures promptly or face disconnection and legal action.
Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has issued notices to eight hundred and five residential properties found to be violating safety regulations by constructing extensions too close to electricity poles and overhead lines. The breaches include extended buildings, balconies jutting into restricted areas, boundary-wall encroachments, and other unsafe alterations.
The company, which recently took over the city's power distribution operations, carried out surveys across various neighbourhoods including Sector 25, Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, Daria, Khuda Jassu, Khuda Lahora, Dhanas, Hallo Majra, Faidan, Mani Majra, Mauli Jagran, Mauli Village, Vikas Nagar, Charan Singh Colony, Palsora, Burail, Dadu Majra Village and Colony, and Maloya. Officials reported that multiple instances of unsafe construction were identified during this exercise.
Residents have been instructed to remove these hazardous encroachments without delay. The utility has warned that failure to comply will result in immediate disconnection of electricity supply without further notice, in addition to potential legal consequences under the relevant laws.
To ensure enforcement, CPDL has shared the details of these notices with the Chandigarh Housing Board, Municipal Corporation, Police Department, and other civic authorities. Officials have further mentioned that inspections will continue, and any additional violations detected in the coming days will also attract similar action.
Residents affected by the notices must act swiftly to remove unauthorised extensions and comply with regulations. With coordinated monitoring by multiple civic agencies, the authorities are signalling a strict approach towards ensuring public safety and curbing unsafe urban construction practices.
