Synopsis

Sunsure Energy has signed a landmark 15-year agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) to supply 500 MWh of peak power from a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) as the end procurer. The agreement is the first of its kind in India, with billing based on a fixed tariff per unit of discharged energy rather than a fixed monthly rate. Sunsure will build, own, and operate the system at the Garautha substation in Jhansi, providing 4 hours of on-demand clean energy during peak hours, marking a historic shift in the country's energy storage ecosystem.

Sunsure Energy, a leading renewable energy solutions provider, has announced a landmark agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVN) for a 500 MWh peak power supply from a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The agreement, formally known as a Battery Energy Discharge Purchase Agreement (BEDPA), will see Sunsure provide power to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), marking the company's first long-term BESS power supply deal.

Under the 15-year agreement, Sunsure Energy will set up a standalone BESS under a build-own-operate model at the Garautha substation in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The system is designed to provide 4 hours of on-demand power between 6 pm and 10 am, giving UPPCL the crucial flexibility to source clean energy during peak demand hours at a competitive and long-term tariff.

This deal represents a historic shift in India's energy storage ecosystem, as it is the first BESS agreement of its kind where billing is based on a fixed tariff per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of discharged energy, rather than fixed monthly rates.

According to Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy, the move represents a clear evolution for the company, from pure-solar offerings to advanced hybrid and storage-based systems, enabling it to displace more fossil fuels from the energy mix for both commercial and utility-side customers.
