Synopsis

The Gujarat government has sanctioned a grant of INR 489.95 crore for the construction of 2,055 new gram panchayat buildings under the Gram Panchayat Ghar cum Talati-Mantri Awas Yojana. The funds will be distributed according to village population, with larger villages receiving higher allocations. The initiative is aimed at ensuring all panchayats have dedicated buildings, strengthening rural governance infrastructure.

The state government announced that INR 489.95 crore has been allocated for the construction of 2,055 gram panchayat buildings under the Gram Panchayat Ghar cum Talati-Mantri Awas Yojana. The initiative has been designed to ensure that every gram panchayat across the state is provided with its own building, thereby reinforcing the three-tier Panchayati Raj system.

Funding will be population-based, with villages housing more than 10,000 residents receiving INR 40 lakh, villages with between 5,000 and 10,000 residents receiving INR 34.83 lakh, and smaller villages with populations below 5,000 being allotted INR 25 lakh. This marks the first time such a large-scale sanction has been made simultaneously, enabling most gram panchayats to begin construction work within the current year.

In addition to the sanctioned amount, the Panchayat Department is working to achieve complete saturation of infrastructure by covering villages through other government schemes as well. This step is aimed at ensuring that the benefits of the initiative extend uniformly across rural Gujarat.

With grants tailored to village size and a focus on saturation, the initiative sets the stage for widespread infrastructure development. This move is expected to provide long-term support to local governance and improve accessibility for rural communities.
