Synopsis

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) earlier this week, with a combined investment of nearly INR 11,000 crore. The projects, aimed at decongesting Delhi and improving regional connectivity, are expected to reduce travel time for commuters from Gurugram, Bahadurgarh, Sonipat, and Rohtak to IGI Airport. Authorities indicated that the new infrastructure would enhance multi-modal integration, industrial connectivity, and goods movement across the NCR.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) earlier this week, with an overall development cost nearing INR 11,000 crore. These projects form part of the government's wider strategy to ease congestion in the national capital and its surrounding regions, focusing on cutting travel time, strengthening connectivity, and alleviating traffic pressure on major routes.

Officials highlighted that once fully operational, the corridors would reduce travel time from Sonipat, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh and Gurugram to the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The prime minister noted that the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II would bring substantial benefits to residents of Delhi-NCR, adding that the government had been working consistently to address their daily commuting difficulties.

The 10.1 km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, developed at a cost of approximately INR 5,360 crore, will provide multi-modal integration with Yashobhoomi, the Delhi Metro Blue and Orange lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. The stretch has been divided into two packages: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 RUB, and 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, which directly connects to the UER-II.

During the inauguration, Modi interacted with labourers working on the expressway and later held a roadshow at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Village Toll Plaza. The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, stretching 19 km, had been inaugurated by him in March last year.

Alongside this, Modi also inaugurated the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, which includes new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, developed at a cost of around INR 5,580 crore. The fresh additions are designed to reduce pressure on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads and key choke points such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-09. They will also provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, thereby improving industrial connectivity and expediting goods transportation across the NCR.

By easing pressure on existing arterial roads, enhancing connectivity to IGI Airport, and facilitating smoother goods movement, the projects are expected to offer widespread benefits for commuters and industries across the NCR, underscoring the government's ongoing efforts to modernise urban infrastructure.
