Synopsis

Tata Power has signed a INR 6,000 crore wind power project deal with Suzlon Energy in Andhra Pradesh. This initiative, which marks the state's first wind power project since 2019, involves the development and construction of 700 MW of wind turbines. It is part of a larger 7 GW mega plan by Tata Power Renewable Energy and the state government, estimated to be a INR 49,000 crore investment, and is being executed under the new Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy to boost the state's renewable energy sector.

A significant wind power project deal has been finalized between Tata Power and Suzlon Energy for the development, construction, and supply of 700 MW wind turbines in Andhra Pradesh. The INR 6,000 crore initiative marks the first wind power project to be developed in the state since 2019. It is part of a larger 7 GW mega plan announced by Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) and the state government, which is expected to see investments of around INR 49,000 crore.

The turbines for the project, which will be S144 Suzlon wind turbine generators, will be manufactured at Suzlon's factory in Andhra Pradesh, which resumed production in 2024. These turbines will comply with the government's newly revised RLMM guidelines, which mandate local sourcing of critical components. The project, located in the Anantapur district, is expected to generate 1,840 million units of power annually and will be connected to the central grid. The project falls under Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, a key framework launched in October 2024 that aims for the state to develop over 160 GW of renewable energy with an investment potential of INR 10 lakh crore.

The project is expected to begin supplying power from July 2027. Andhra Pradesh has also attracted other major investments in the renewable energy sector since the launch of its new clean energy policy. These include projects by NTPC Green, Vedanta's Serentica, SAEL Industries, Brookfield, and ReNew Power. This robust investment in the state's renewable energy sector highlights the potential for clean energy growth and its role in meeting the country's ambitious climate goals.
