DPIIT has reviewed 18 long-pending issues across 11 infrastructure projects in Eastern and Northeastern India, representing investments over INR 34,213 crore. Chaired by DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia, the review focused on resolving implementation hurdles through inter-ministerial and state-level coordination. Key discussions included Jharkhand's Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion and Arunachal Pradesh's INR 1,000 crore hydrocarbon project by GeoEnpro Petroleum, both facing operational delays. The session, held under DPIIT's Project Monitoring Group (PMG), aims to fast-track clearances and boost regional infrastructure. The initiative reflects a focused effort to unlock investments and improve execution efficiency across critical sectors in underserved states.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has taken a proactive step toward addressing infrastructure bottlenecks in Eastern and Northeastern India by reviewing 18 long-pending issues across 11 key infrastructure projects. These projects, located in Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, and Nagaland, collectively represent an investment exceeding INR 34,213 crore.
The review was held under the chairmanship of DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia, and was attended by senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and representatives of the project-implementing agencies. The session aimed to remove inter-departmental delays and facilitate smoother coordination between the Centre and states.
A major portion of the discussion was focused on infrastructure developments in Jharkhand, where several public sector-led projects are facing critical implementation challenges. Among them, the Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion Project Phase-I was reviewed in depth. The project, being executed under the energy sector in Jharkhand, is considered pivotal for boosting regional power capacity, and its timely completion is crucial to meeting the state's electricity demand and enhancing supply stability.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the DPIIT also examined project-related concerns surrounding a private sector initiative by GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd. The company's hydrocarbon exploration and production venture, pegged at INR 1,000 crore, has been grappling with operational setbacks. The DPIIT Secretary urged the state government to treat the matter with urgency and ensure the project receives the necessary administrative and logistical support for timely execution.
The review was conducted as part of DPIIT's Project Monitoring Group (PMG) mechanism, which is tasked with tracking and resolving issues affecting large-scale investment projects. Through regular inter-ministerial coordination and engagement with state-level authorities, the PMG aims to speed up approvals, land clearances, and infrastructure-linked decisions that often delay on-ground progress.
