Abhishek Lodha-led Macrotech Developers has officially changed its name to Lodha Developers after receiving approval from the Registrar of Companies, following a recent resolution of a trademark dispute with House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL), led by his younger brother. The legal battle, initiated earlier this year, stemmed from Macrotech's claim of trademark infringement against HoABL. However, under parental guidance, both brothers reached an amicable agreement. As part of the resolution, Abhishek retains exclusive rights to the 'Lodha' and 'Lodha Group' brand, while Abhinandan continues independently with the 'House of Abhinandan Lodha' brand.
Macrotech Developers Ltd, led by Abhishek Lodha, has received regulatory approval from the Registrar of Companies to officially change its name to Lodha Developers Ltd. This decision was implemented after a peaceful resolution of a trademark dispute between Abhishek Lodha and his younger brother Abhinandan Lodha, who heads the rival firm House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).
As mentioned in a filing with the stock exchanges, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs granted the name change approval, which took effect earlier this week. The shift marks a symbolic consolidation of brand identity for Macrotech, a company already selling projects under the 'Lodha' banner.
This move comes nearly two months after the two Lodha brothers resolved their legal battle, which had begun when Macrotech Developers filed a suit in the Bombay High Court earlier this year. The elder brother?s firm had accused HoABL of trademark infringement and had sought injunctive relief along with damages.
In April, both parties declared that the dispute had been amicably settled under the guidance of their parents. According to the terms of the agreement, Macrotech Developers?now Lodha Developers?will hold exclusive rights to use the 'Lodha' and 'Lodha Group' brand names. In contrast, Abhinandan Lodha has exclusive rights to operate under the brand 'House of Abhinandan Lodha'.
The agreement clarified that neither brother would make claims against the other, and both firms have no business association with each other. They also agreed to publicly affirm their independence and brand separation to avoid confusion among stakeholders.
Macrotech Developers, now Lodha Developers, remains one of the country?s most prominent real estate developers, with a wide portfolio spanning residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. Meanwhile, HoABL continues to focus on the development of plotted residential properties in key Indian cities.
The agreement also highlights the role of family intervention in preventing prolonged corporate litigation, setting a precedent for similar disputes within family-run enterprises in India?s business landscape.
