Synopsis

A growing number of British and Irish property seekers are targeting Spain not just for holiday homes but as part of long-term lifestyle and retirement planning. Taylor Wimpey España revealed that 45% of its UK and Irish clients are aged between 45 and 59, signalling a shift toward forward-looking investments. Spain's stable property price growth, top-tier healthcare, and high global retirement ranking are drawing buyers to regions like Costa del Sol, where penthouse living offers both luxury and future value.

Spain is increasingly emerging as a top choice for property buyers prioritising long-term value combined with quality of life. According to Taylor Wimpey España , a leading developer in the Spanish residential market, buyers from the UK and Ireland are not merely investing for seasonal use but are incorporating lifestyle and retirement considerations into their decisions. The company disclosed that 45% of its British and Irish clientele fall within the 45-59 age bracket, highlighting a trend among mid-life purchasers planning ahead for their post-retirement years.

Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey España , noted that purchasing a home is often a long-term commitment and that many clients are selecting Spanish properties to enjoy for several years before transitioning into retirement. He explained that such buyers seek homes that fulfil both immediate lifestyle preferences and long-term financial return potential.

Spain appears to offer both. In the latest Global Retirement Report by Global Citizen Solutions, Spain was ranked as the third most desirable retirement destination globally. The report cited the country's strong safety record, its accessible healthcare infrastructure, and ease of integration for foreigners as key factors contributing to its high ranking.

Financially, the property market in Spain continues to show encouraging signs. Tinsa's General Index, managed by Accumin, reported a national year-on-year property price increase of 8.8% as of June 2025. Along the Mediterranean coastline-a key area of interest for overseas buyers-this rise reached 9.2%, reflecting sustained interest and growing demand in coastal real estate.

Taylor Wimpey España confirmed that 80% of its UK and Irish buyers gravitate towards properties in the Costa del Sol. The region's blend of over 300 days of sunshine annually, expansive sandy beaches, reputable golf courses, and vibrant social atmosphere make it particularly attractive to those seeking to merge leisure with long-term investment value.

Among the sought-after offerings are penthouses, which cater to a lifestyle of indoor-outdoor living facilitated by spacious private terraces. These homes maximise the region's natural beauty and climate, serving as tranquil retreats where residents can entertain, relax, or simply enjoy sea views beneath Andalusia's vivid blue skies.

One standout development is Marbella Lake, located in Nueva Andaluc'a. The final available penthouse at this site is priced from EUR 1,015,000 plus VAT and features a modern open-plan layout with three bedrooms and two expansive terraces. The home is surrounded by landscaped gardens and benefits from access to four communal pools. Just five kilometres from the upscale marina of Puerto Ban's, it offers a peaceful yet accessible lifestyle.

Another key development is Solemar at Casares Beach in Málaga, where the last remaining penthouses are listed from EUR 535,000 plus VAT. These southwest-facing homes provide vast terraces for seamless indoor-outdoor living and are situated within walking distance of the beach. The family-oriented complex includes a well-designed communal pool and shared leisure areas, catering to both personal use and investment appeal.

The combination of stable property appreciation, high-quality healthcare, and inviting coastal living continues to shape purchasing trends. As demand grows in hotspots like Costa del Sol, developers such as Taylor Wimpey España are delivering homes that match both current lifestyle desires and future investment logic, reinforcing Spain's reputation as a destination for enduring value and quality living.
