Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri N Chandrababu Naidu today met with Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, seeking substantial central funding to bolster sports infrastructure across the state. The Chief Minister requested over INR 538 crore for stadium development and an additional INR 25 crore to organize the Khelo India Martial Arts Games this year. Emphasizing the state's ambitious new sports policy, Naidu outlined plans for world-class training centers and sought expedited completion of existing projects, underscoring Andhra Pradesh's vision to emerge as a national sports hub.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, recently held a crucial meeting with Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in the national capital. During the discussion, Chief Minister Naidu pressed for significant financial support from the Centre, aiming to transform Andhra Pradesh's sports landscape.


The Chief Minister specifically requested INR 538 crore for establishing various stadiums across the state. Additionally, he sought INR 25 crore to facilitate the hosting of the Khelo India Martial Arts Games this year, an event he assured would be conducted at premier sports venues in cities like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

Naidu highlighted steps taken by the state government to develop a robust sports ecosystem as part of Andhra Pradesh's ambitious 2024-29 sports policy. This policy aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a national sports capital by 2029, notably including a three percent horizontal reservation for eligible sportspersons in direct government recruitment. He called for greater central assistance to realize these goals.

Among the specific demands, the Chief Minister requested the establishment of an international-standard badminton training centre and a national aquatic sports training hub in Amaravati, the state capital region. He further elaborated on the significant potential for setting up water sports training facilities along the banks of the Krishna river.

Naidu also revealed that the state government has already submitted numerous proposals for sports infrastructure development, including plans for National Centres of Excellence at Nagarjuna University and in Kakinada. Such centres, typically established by the Sports Authority of India, provide specialized training and world-class infrastructure to promising athletes.

Detailed funding requests included INR 27 crore for the development of Vijayawada's Indira Gandhi Stadium, INR 170 crore for setting up a multi-sport complex at BR Stadium in Guntur, and a broader request of INR 341 crore for general sports development initiatives across various parts of the state. Both the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Vijayawada and BR Stadium in Guntur have seen past development plans, indicating a sustained focus on upgrading these facilities.

The Chief Minister also proposed sanctioning additional Khelo India centers in various districts, emphasizing their role in identifying talented sportspersons from grassroots levels. He also sought consideration for establishing a Sports Authority of India training centre in Tirupati, located in the Rayalaseema region.

Chief Minister Naidu extended his gratitude to Union Minister Mandaviya for the opportunity to host the Khelo India Martial Arts Games this year. Union aviation minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu was also present during the meeting. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister is scheduled to continue his visit to the national capital tomorrow, with meetings planned with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil.
