MahaRERA has blocked public access to details of projects placed under abeyance. This includes crucial information like project approvals, timelines, and legal orders. Visitors now only see a message saying the project is suspended and its account frozen. MahaRERA says the move targets developers who fail to upload mandatory progress updates. Data can still be accessed through written requests. Over 2,100 projects across Maharashtra have been suspended recently, with accounts frozen and a verification drive launched to check the authenticity of occupancy certificates.
The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has drawn sharp criticism from homebuyers and legal practitioners after it disabled public access to detailed information of real estate projects currently under abeyance. This move, implemented earlier this week, restricts online visibility into key project documents, including registration approvals, revised completion timelines, occupancy certificate status, and previous RERA orders.
Anyone attempting to view such details for affected projects now sees a static message on the portal: the project has been placed under abeyance and its bank account has been frozen. When contacted, MahaRERA officials confirmed that information for projects placed in abeyance had indeed been withheld. They attributed the move to growing instances of non-compliance specifically, developers not uploading mandatory quarterly progress reports or updated completion timelines.
The regulator clarified that these projects were placed under technical suspension, and the developers? project accounts were frozen to prevent further financial activity. However, they insisted that information is still available via written applications, which would be processed manually.
This is not the first time MahaRERA has taken stringent steps against errant developers. Over the past few months, the regulator has suspended more than 2,100 projects across Maharashtra due to serious lapses in compliance. It has also frozen multiple project accounts and launched a verification drive to validate occupancy certificates (OCs) submitted by developers.
