A structure known as 'Projonmo Chattar' was demolished in the early hours of Saturday at Shahbagh in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works carried out this demolition, stating it plans a new installation at the site.

The 'Projonmo Chattar' structure gained prominence during the 2013 Shahbagh protests, symbolizing the spirit of the Bangladesh Liberation War and the demand for justice against war criminals. The Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported on Sunday that the structure was demolished in the early hours of Saturday. Local tea vendors in the area stated that the demolition began after midnight using a bulldozer, and a section of the structure was completely dismantled.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed that the Ministry of Housing and Public Works carried out the demolition. He stated that the Ministry informed him beforehand about the plan to prevent public unrest, and no resistance or crowd formation was reported.

OC Khalid Mansur also stated that the Ministry informed him a new installation related to the July protest will be constructed at the site. A massive student-led protest in July last year resulted in up to 1,400 deaths, according to a UN rights office report, and led to the ouster of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country on August 5.
