Actor Mahesh Babu has been served a notice by a consumer court over alleged fraud in a real estate scheme he endorsed. A city-based doctor claims she was defrauded of INR 34.8 lakh after buying a non-existent plot, influenced by his endorsement. The Rangareddy District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed all respondents, including Sai Surya Developers and its owner, to appear on August 7. Previous reports suggest the actor received INR 5.9 crore for promoting the firm, which allegedly sold plots in unauthorized layouts and made multiple sales.
Actor Mahesh Babu has recently been served a legal notice by a consumer court in Hyderabad. This action comes in connection with a complaint filed against a real estate company he reportedly promoted, focusing on allegations of fraud in a real estate scheme.
A city-based doctor, the complainant, alleged she was defrauded of INR 34.8 lakh after purchasing a non-existent plot in Balapur layout. She claimed her decision to invest was influenced by Mahesh Babu's endorsement of Sai Surya Developers, whose brochures featured his presence, adding credibility.
The doctor alleged that despite making the payment, she was not provided with property documents, and no plot was handed over to her. The Rangareddy District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission issued the notice.
It named Sai Surya Developers as the first respondent, its owner Kancharla Satish Chandra Gupta as the second, and Mahesh Babu as the third respondent. The commission has directed all three respondents to appear on the next hearing date, August 7.
Mahesh Babu has not yet issued a public statement regarding the notice. Previous reports indicate that Mahesh Babu allegedly endorsed multiple projects linked to both Sai Surya Developers and Surana Group. He reportedly received INR 5.9 crore for promoting Sai Surya Developers.
Enforcement Directorate (ED) sources suggest that these entities allegedly collected crores in advance from unsuspecting buyers by offering plots in unauthorized layouts, making multiple sales of the same plots, and providing false registration assurances. Endorsements by celebrities can add credibility to real estate projects. Consumer courts play a role in addressing complaints of fraud and non-delivery in the real estate sector.
