Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, is undergoing a significant transformation with infrastructure projects exceeding INR 3,000 crore. A cornerstone of this transformation is the Dimapur-Kohima railway line, a broad-gauge project connecting Kohima to the national railway network. This initiative is expected to boost trade, tourism, and accessibility, integrating Nagaland more closely with the rest of the country.
Complementing this is the four-laning of National Highway 29 (NH-29) between Dimapur and Kohima. This project aims to reduce travel time and improve road safety, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people.
Under the Smart City Mission, Kohima is implementing various projects to modernize urban infrastructure. These include the Kohima City Centre, featuring a hotel, multi-level parking, a mini sports complex, and a commercial center. Additionally, the Kohima Bypass Road is being constructed to alleviate traffic congestion in the city.
To further improve connectivity, the state government has proposed the construction of the Chiethu Airport, a greenfield airport located 25 kilometers north of Kohima. This project aims to provide air connectivity to the state capital, promoting tourism and economic development.
Healthcare infrastructure is also receiving attention, with the establishment of the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) in Kohima. This medical college and hospital aim to improve medical education and healthcare services in the region.
These comprehensive infrastructure developments underscore Kohima's commitment to evolving into a modern urban center. By enhancing connectivity, promoting sustainable development, and improving public amenities, the city is poised to offer a higher quality of life to its residents and attract investment for sustained economic growth.
