The northeastern region of India is poised to witness a substantial influx of investment, potentially ranging from INR 2.5 to 3 lakh crore, across various sectors, according to Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia. Speaking ahead of the Rising Northeast Investors' Summit 2025, Scindia disclosed that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has secured investment commitments amounting to INR 1.12 lakh crore through nine roadshows, excluding previously announced investments. With the summit set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, DoNER plans to engage with major industrial houses such as the Tata Group, Reliance Industries, and Aditya Birla Group to further boost investment figures.
Fresh investment in India's northeastern states is projected to surge between INR 2.5 to 3 lakh crore across multiple sectors, according to Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, ahead of the Rising Northeast Investors' Summit 2025. Scindia, who also serves as the Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), highlighted that the ministry has already received investment commitments worth INR 1.12 lakh crore through nine roadshows organised in recent weeks. This figure does not include any previous investment announcements.
Speaking at the curtain-raiser event for the summit, scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Scindia emphasised that the ministry intends to escalate the investment numbers until the summit concludes. The event is expected to attract significant investment pledges from industrial giants such as the Tata Group, Reliance Industries, and Aditya Birla Group, with whom Scindia has held individual meetings to discuss potential projects in the region.
Scindia stated that investors should factor in commitments from six industrial conglomerates and several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) when considering the overall investment outlook. "The estimated investment range is between INR 2.5 lakh and 3 lakh crore," Scindia noted, adding that the ministry will actively work to convert these commitments into tangible projects through collaboration with the northeastern states' Investment Promotion Authorities.
Following the summit, DoNER will work closely with state governments to facilitate project implementation, ensuring that investment pledges are successfully realised on the ground. Scindia expressed confidence in the region's growth prospects, stating that the ministry will provide continued support to both investors and state governments to expedite the execution of proposed projects.
By fostering partnerships with leading industrial players and reinforcing infrastructure development initiatives, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region aims to create a robust investment ecosystem that not only attracts new capital but also ensures the successful realisation of proposed projects.
