Assam Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that Guwahati will soon host 11 new five-star hotels, positioning the city as a regional hospitality hub. This includes two Marriott properties-Marriott Resort & Spa and Fairfield by Marriott-spread over 25 acres with a combined investment of INR 500 crore. The projects, initiated under Advantage Assam 2.0, have already begun construction. Additional developments include four more Marriott hotels, two Taj properties, a Lemon Tree hotel, and Radisson's expansion with 100 more keys. These ventures aim to boost Assam's hospitality infrastructure, generate employment, and strengthen Guwahati's status as a key tourism and business destination.
Assam Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Guwahati is set to see the addition of 11 new five-star hotels, positioning the city as a key hospitality hub in the region. Earlier this week, Sarma laid the foundation for two Marriott International properties, which will be developed with an investment of INR 500 crore.
Sarma mentioned in a post on X that Guwahati had gained significant momentum in attracting global hospitality chains, highlighting his participation in the Bhoomi Poojan for the two Marriott properties. These developments include Marriott Resort & Spa and Fairfield by Marriott, both of which will occupy over 25 acres of land.
The Chief Minister further explained that the memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for these INR 500 crore projects were signed earlier this year during the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit. The construction has already begun, marking a swift move from signing agreements to the commencement of work.
He emphasized that the introduction of 11 five-star hotels in the city would position Guwahati as a key destination for global hospitality chains looking to tap into the burgeoning demand in the region. As part of this expansion, Sarma revealed that four additional Marriott hotels, two Taj properties, and one Lemon Tree hotel would be established in the city.
Additionally, Radisson plans to increase its presence with 100 more keys, while Taj will replace its current Vivanta property with a new establishment. These projects are expected to significantly strengthen Assam's hospitality infrastructure, while also creating numerous employment opportunities, both direct and indirect. This will contribute to the overall economic growth of the state.
The influx of global hospitality chains, including Marriott, Taj, and Radisson, reflects the growing demand for high-quality accommodations in the region. The expected job creation and strengthened infrastructure will enhance the state's appeal as a key tourism and business hub, positioning Guwahati as a leading destination in the hospitality industry.
