Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has sought permission from the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) for a no-objection certificate (NOC) to utilise over 5,800 square metres of land for constructing 10 stations in the first phase of the new metro corridor. The budget allocated for this phase is INR 1,286 crore. The complete metro corridor is designed to span 28.5 kilometres, linking Millennium City Centre to Cyber City with 27 stations, and will cost INR 5,452 crore. Additionally, a casting yard will be set up in Sector 33.
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has taken a significant step towards the realisation of the first phase of the new metro corridor in Gurugram by submitting a request to the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) for a no-objection certificate (NOC). This certificate is needed for GMRL to utilise more than 5,800 square metres of land for the construction of 10 stations. The stations are an essential part of the metro's first phase, which is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban mobility within the city.
This request for land clearance comes as GMRL aims to commence civil work by June, having experienced a delay from the originally planned May start. The delay was primarily due to the inclusion of the Bakhtawar Chowk underpass in the project's scope. Despite the delay, GMRL remains on track to deliver a state-of-the-art metro system that will serve the growing needs of Gurugram's residents and businesses.
The 10 stations for which GMRL seeks land clearance are located across various key areas of the city. These stations include Millennium City Centre, Sector 45, Subhash Chowk, Sector 33, Udyog Vihar Phase 6, Sector 10, Sector 37, Basai Village, Sector 9, and Sector 101. The stations are strategically positioned along a 15.2-kilometre stretch of the metro line, which will connect Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. Additionally, a spur from Basai will link to Sector 101 on the Dwarka Expressway, expanding the reach of the metro system and offering enhanced connectivity for commuters.
The overall budget for the first phase of the metro construction has been set at INR 1,286 crore. When completed, the entire metro corridor is designed to span 28.5 kilometres, connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, and will consist of 27 stations. The total estimated cost for the entire project stands at INR 5,452 crore, underscoring the significant investment in Gurugram's transportation infrastructure.
Apart from the station construction, GMRL is also preparing to set up a casting yard in Sector 33. The Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran has already allocated 5.25 hectares of land in this area for the casting yard. This facility will play a crucial role in the production of precast metro components, which are essential for the construction of the metro system. The establishment of the casting yard signifies that preparations for the metro project are moving forward smoothly, with the necessary infrastructure and materials being sourced in advance to meet construction timelines.
As GMRL and HSVP collaborate to overcome initial challenges and move the project forward, the expected outcome will be a more efficient, sustainable, and accessible transport network that benefits the city's residents and businesses. The metro is expected to alleviate traffic congestion significantly, reduce pollution, and provide a reliable alternative to road transport. With the metro project progressing steadily, Gurugram is on the cusp of a major infrastructure upgrade.
