Essar Group's GreenLine Mobility Solutions has partnered with Shriram Finance to deploy a new fleet of LNG-powered trucks, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable logistics. The deployment was flagged off at Chakan, Pune, and marks a significant step in GreenLine's strategy to decarbonise India's transportation sector, which contributes nearly 15% of the country's carbon emissions. With a current fleet of over 650 LNG trucks serving key industries, the company plans to expand to 10,000 LNG and EV trucks, supported by a network of 100 LNG refuelling and EV charging stations nationwide. This initiative is expected to curtail carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.
GreenLine Mobility Solutions, Essar Group's green logistics provider, has entered into a strategic partnership with Shriram Finance for the deployment of a new fleet of LNG-powered trucks, the company revealed earlier this week. The launch event, held at Chakan, Pune, marks a pivotal move in GreenLine's ongoing efforts to decarbonise India's logistics sector.
The initiative is backed by Shriram Finance Ltd., a prominent non-banking financial company (NBFC) in India. According to the company, GreenLine is currently the only logistics operator in the country to operate a fleet of heavy commercial vehicles powered by LNG and electric energy. Its existing fleet of over 650 LNG trucks services leading firms in sectors such as FMCG, e-commerce, metals and mining, cement, oil and gas, and chemicals.
Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine Mobility Solutions, stated that the fleet expansion, backed by Shriram Finance, is a crucial step towards transforming India's logistics landscape with sustainable, high-performance solutions.
Sharvari Prabhu, CFO of GreenLine, highlighted that as the company scales up its LNG fleet, the strategic financial support from Shriram Finance is instrumental in offering viable green alternatives to conventional trucking and in advancing India's decarbonisation agenda.
GreenLine has set ambitious targets, aiming to roll out over 10,000 LNG and electric vehicles, supported by a comprehensive nationwide infrastructure network comprising 100 LNG refuelling stations, EV charging stations, and battery swapping facilities. This extensive expansion plan is expected to mitigate carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.
As the company leverages financial backing from major NBFCs and scales its operations, it also aligns with broader national objectives to reduce carbon emissions and promote eco-friendly logistics solutions. The move underscores the growing importance of sustainable logistics in India's industrial landscape, presenting opportunities for further investments in green infrastructure and technology.
