Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin virtually inaugurated a newly built apartment complex in Karur district, marking another step in the state's affordable housing efforts. The residential project, comprising 32 compact flats, was constructed by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) in Velambadi, located in the Aravakurichi region of Karur. This development is part of the state government's broader mission to provide secure and quality housing for economically weaker sections.

The apartment complex was constructed at a total cost of INR 2.95 crore and occupies an area of 0.165 hectares. The building features a basement and rises up to three floors. Each of the 32 housing units spans 400 square feet and includes essential living spaces-one bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a separate toilet. The estimated cost of each individual flat is approximately INR 9.23 lakh.

As a part of the inauguration ceremony, 30 beneficiaries were selected and issued official allotment orders for the newly constructed flats. These were formally distributed by District Collector M. Thangavel in the presence of Karur Member of Parliament S. Jothimani and Aravakurichi Member of Legislative Assembly R. Elango. The event also saw the participation of several district-level government officials.

The housing units have been designed to ensure basic but essential living standards, equipped with critical infrastructure to support daily needs. A dedicated groundwater tank and borewell system have been installed to secure an adequate water supply, with the operations managed by the Velambadi village administration. In addition, a motor room has been constructed to support water distribution mechanisms. To manage waste and sanitation, a septic tank and an efficient drainage system have also been provided.

For the safety and convenience of residents, the complex features street lighting along the internal pathways and surrounding premises. These amenities are aimed at ensuring a safe and functional living environment for the families who will be moving into the complex.

This initiative highlights the Tamil Nadu government's commitment to enhancing urban housing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for underprivileged communities. Through projects like these, the administration continues to promote inclusive development by addressing the pressing need for affordable and well-equipped housing across the state. The Velambadi project stands as a model of cost-effective, sustainable urban residential planning, integrating essential facilities within a modest budget and timeframe.
