Suzuki Motorcycle India has commenced work on its second Indian manufacturing facility, located in Kharkhoda, Haryana, with an initial investment of INR 1,200 crore. The 100-acre plant will begin operations in 2027, delivering an annual production capacity of 750,000 units in its first phase and generating employment for around 2,000 people. This strategic expansion aims to address growing domestic demand, reinforce the company's commitment to sustainability, and support regional economic development. The facility will adopt energy-efficient and environmentally conscious practices in line with Suzuki's global carbon neutrality goals.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has taken a major step forward in expanding its manufacturing capabilities by initiating the development of a new production facility at the Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The foundation stone for this expansive 100-acre plant was laid earlier this week, signalling a strong commitment by the company to scale operations and support rising demand in the Indian two-wheeler segment.
This new manufacturing unit is being established with an initial investment of INR 1,200 crore and will become the company's second production facility in India, supplementing its existing plant in Gurgaon, which currently has an annual output capacity of 540,000 units. In its first phase of development, the Kharkhoda facility is anticipated to reach a production capacity of 750,000 units per annum. The plant is expected to commence operations in 2027 and is projected to create employment opportunities for approximately 2,000 individuals, thereby contributing significantly to the regional economy.
The plant's design has been guided by principles of sustainability and operational efficiency. It will incorporate lean manufacturing methodologies, state-of-the-art automation, and energy-efficient systems. As part of Suzuki's broader global strategy to achieve carbon neutrality, the facility will dedicate 25 acres of its area to green landscaping and eco-friendly initiatives. This effort underscores the company's commitment to reducing its environmental impact while maintaining high production standards.
This latest development aligns with SMIPL's broader strategy to tap into the growing demand in India's two-wheeler market. The company's investment comes at a time when urban mobility, affordability, and sustainability are becoming increasingly important to Indian consumers. With the combined capacity of its Gurgaon and upcoming Kharkhoda facilities, Suzuki Motorcycle India is positioning itself to meet evolving market needs while also playing a constructive role in the country's industrial and employment landscape.
