Silchar is witnessing a major infrastructure overhaul with projects worth over INR 27,000 crore. The Assam government has allocated INR 700 crore for a two-phase flyover project to ease traffic in Silchar Municipal Town. A INR 1,186.20 crore NH-37 upgrade will connect Silchar to Jiribam, boosting trade routes to Manipur and Meghalaya. A INR 25,000 crore high-speed corridor under Bharatmala will link Shillong and Silchar, cutting travel time to four hours. In healthcare, the INR 295 crore Silchar Cancer Centre has been inaugurated, providing advanced treatment in the Barak Valley. These developments position Silchar as a key economic and connectivity hub in Northeast India.

Silchar, a city in Assam's Barak Valley, is experiencing a significant infrastructural transformation. The Assam government has allocated INR 700 crore for the construction of a new flyover in Silchar Municipal Town. The first phase will connect Capital Point (Trunk Road) to Chittaranjan Statue Point (Hailakandi Road), with construction expected to commence within the next three months. A second phase, extending from Ramnagar (ISBT) to Capital Point, is also planned. These projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

In a strategic move to bolster trade and logistics efficiency, the Union government has approved INR 1,186.20 crore for the four-laning of a 13 km stretch of National Highway 37, extending from Silchar (near Budha Nagar) to Jiribam in Manipur. This project is expected to enhance road connectivity between Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya, providing seamless access to Imphal via the Jiribam-Silchar-Ratacherra-Kalain-Jowai-Shillong route on NH-37.

The Union Cabinet has approved a INR 25,000 crore high-speed corridor connecting Shillong with Silchar. This 160-km greenfield alignment aims to reduce travel time between the two towns to approximately four hours. Part of the Bharatmala programme, this project is anticipated to enhance connectivity between Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, and stimulate regional economic growth.

In the healthcare sector, the Silchar Cancer Centre has been inaugurated with an investment of INR 295 crore under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation. This facility aims to provide advanced cancer treatment services to residents of the Barak Valley, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized care.?

Collectively, these infrastructure projects signify a transformative phase for Silchar, positioning it as a pivotal hub in Assam's infrastructural and economic landscape.
