Synopsis

Marriott Hotels has launched a 226-room property in Udaipur, marking another step in its tier-II city expansion. Part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, the hotel targets rising tourist and wedding demand in the heritage-rich 'City of Lakes.' This follows similar openings in Goa, Shimla, and Mussoorie. Marriott's regional VP Ranju Alex noted Udaipur's appeal for both domestic and international travellers. As global hotel chains like Hilton and Accor enter smaller cities, Udaipur is also witnessing growing interest in resort-style villas and mixed-use developments, highlighting a hospitality-led trend in real estate around emerging tourist destinations.

Marriott Hotels has opened a new 226-room property in Udaipur, Rajasthan, as global hotel chains continue to invest in popular Indian travel destinations. The Udaipur Marriott Hotel is the latest addition to the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio and is expected to cater to both domestic and international travellers looking for upscale stays in the city known for its lakes and palaces.

The move comes at a time when demand for leisure travel has been steadily rising, especially to tier-II cities with cultural and historical importance. Udaipur, known as the 'City of Lakes', has become one of India's top wedding, event, and tourist destinations. The new hotel aims to meet this growing demand with high-end rooms, event spaces, and modern amenities.

Ranju Alex, Regional Vice President - South Asia, Marriott International, said in a statement that Udaipur is one of the most preferred destinations in Rajasthan and it serves as a perfect backdrop to introduce their signature heartfelt service and quality standards.

Over the last few years, major international hotel chains have been expanding into Indian cities beyond metros. Hilton, Radisson, and Accor have also launched or announced properties in cities like Jaipur, Indore, and Amritsar. These destinations offer growing tourist footfall, lower land costs compared to big cities, and better opportunities to partner with local developers for long-term growth.

For Marriott, this opening follows similar moves in Goa, Shimla, and Mussoorie, where premium leisure travel is on the rise. With the hospitality sector recovering steadily post-pandemic, global chains are doubling down on India's tier-II cities that attract both wedding business and weekend tourism.

The hospitality-led development model is influencing real estate growth in cities like Udaipur. Local brokers say interest in resort-style villas and serviced apartments is rising around such hotel hubs. Many hospitality players are also entering partnerships for mixed-use developments that include retail, residential, and hospitality in one integrated space.

As leisure travel picks up across India, hotel brands like Marriott are betting big on smaller cities-reshaping not just tourism but also local real estate patterns.
