Synopsis

Muzaffarpur is undergoing a major transformation with infrastructure investments exceeding INR 6,640 crore. Key projects include a INR 5,359 crore Metro Rail with two corridors, a 17-km Eastern Ring Road, and a INR 814 crore bridge-road project over the Bagmati River. The city is also revamping its transport with a INR 442 crore Muzaffarpur Junction upgrade and a INR 25 crore Patahi Airport redevelopment under the UDAN scheme. Plans for an international-standard Burhi Gandak riverfront and an 8-km elevated corridor are also underway. These developments aim to decongest traffic, boost regional connectivity, and establish Muzaffarpur as a modern urban and economic hub in Bihar.

Muzaffarpur, a key city in Bihar, is experiencing a significant transformation through various infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, urban amenities, and economic growth.

A 17-kilometer eastern ring road is under construction to connect Madhoul (NH-22) to Bakhri (NH-27), with a stretch from Dighra Patti (NH-122). This project aims to divert traffic from the city center, reducing congestion and facilitating smoother travel towards Patna, Samastipur, and Barauni without entering urban Muzaffarpur.

A 21-kilometer road project, including a 3.35-kilometer high-level bridge over the Bagmati River, is underway. With an investment of INR 814 crore, this initiative aims to improve regional connectivity and ease transportation challenges in the area.

The proposed Muzaffarpur Metro Rail Project encompasses two corridors totaling 21.25 kilometers with 20 stations. The first corridor connects Bakri to Ramdayalu Nagar, while the second links SKMCH to Muzaffarpur Junction. The project, estimated at INR 5,359 crore, is expected to be operational by 2029.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Muzaffarpur Junction is undergoing a INR 442 crore redevelopment to transform it into a world-class transport hub. The upgraded station will feature modern amenities, including Wi-Fi, solar power, rainwater harvesting, and improved passenger facilities.

Plans are in place to develop an international-standard riverfront along the Burhi Gandak River. The project includes an eight-kilometer elevated road connecting Dadar Kolhua Ghat to BMP-6, revitalized ghats with improved access, and enhanced lighting. The River Cities Alliance will provide technical expertise for this initiative.

Under the UDAN scheme, INR 25 crore has been allocated for the redevelopment of Patahi Airport to facilitate small aircraft operations and improve regional air connectivity. The Airports Authority of India will oversee the development, aiming to boost connectivity and economic growth in the region.

These multifaceted infrastructure projects signify Muzaffarpur's commitment to evolving into a modern urban center, enhancing the quality of life for its residents and positioning the city as a key player in Bihar's development trajectory.
