Dibrugarh, Assam's 'Tea City,' is undergoing major infrastructural development, including the upgrade of the Jorhat-Dibrugarh National Highway, scheduled for completion by December 2025. A Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) under PPP is planned to integrate road, rail, air, and waterways, boosting trade and jobs. Ongoing flood control works aim to protect lives and infrastructure, while Dibrugarh Airport's runway extension will support larger aircraft and increased air traffic. These projects, aligned with Assam's development agenda, are expected to significantly enhance Dibrugarh's role as a logistics and transport hub in Northeast India.
Dibrugarh, often referred to as the "Tea City of India," is undergoing a transformative phase with several key infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, bolstering economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
A significant development is the upgrade of the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway, scheduled for completion by December 31, 2025. This project is expected to significantly improve road connectivity between two major cities in Assam, facilitating smoother transportation of goods and passengers, and stimulating regional trade and commerce.
In a strategic move to bolster trade and logistics efficiency in the Northeast region, a Multi-Modal Logistics Park is proposed in Dibrugarh under a Public-Private Partnership model. This facility is envisioned to serve as a crucial logistics hub, integrating road, rail, air, and waterways to enable seamless movement of goods. The MMLP is expected to attract significant investment and generate employment opportunities, further cementing Dibrugarh's role as a key economic center in Assam.
Given Dibrugarh's vulnerability to seasonal flooding, comprehensive flood mitigation and erosion control projects are underway. These initiatives aim to safeguard the city's infrastructure and protect the livelihoods of its residents. By implementing advanced drainage systems and reinforcing embankments, the city seeks to enhance its resilience against natural calamities.
To accommodate increasing air traffic and improve regional connectivity, a strategic runway extension project is in progress at Dibrugarh Airport. This expansion is anticipated to facilitate the operation of larger aircraft, thereby enhancing the airport's capacity and contributing to the region's economic development.
