Synopsis

In a recent development, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) approved a new SOP for setting up ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants, requiring operators to obtain licenses and adhere to pollution control measures. The authority also sanctioned 16 town planning schemes, including the redevelopment of Jaspur Lake and plantation work in Khoraj. Additionally, AUDA initiated reconstruction efforts for deteriorating housing under its urban poor housing scheme. These measures are part of Gujarat's ongoing efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and development.

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) recently sanctioned a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the establishment of ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants within its jurisdiction. This move mandates that any RMC plant operating in AUDA-regulated areas must now secure a valid license. Additionally, the SOP introduces stringent pollution control measures, with specified monetary penalties for non-compliance.

In the same board meeting, AUDA approved 16 town planning (TP) schemes. Notably, for TP Scheme 229, a consultant was appointed to oversee the redevelopment of Jaspur Lake. Furthermore, in TP Scheme 61 of Khoraj, the authority authorized plantation work on final plot no. 133, delegating the responsibility to a designated organization.

Recognizing the deteriorating condition of houses under its existing urban poor housing scheme, AUDA also appointed a consultant to undertake reconstruction efforts.

This initiative aligns with Gujarat's broader urban development goals. Previously, the state government amended the Common General Development Control Regulations (GDCR) to permit the construction of high-rise buildings exceeding 70 floors in major cities, including Ahmedabad . Additionally, the Asian Development Bank approved a USD 181 million loan to enhance infrastructure in Ahmedabad's peri-urban areas, focusing on water distribution, stormwater drainage, and sewage systems .
