Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari recently stated that Madhya Pradesh's national highway network will outperform the United States' within the next two years. While launching and laying the foundation stone for 10 highway projects worth INR 5,800 crore, he also assured that infrastructure development projects worth INR 3 lakh crore would be completed in the state within a year. Emphasising the Centre's commitment to development, Gadkari cited the role of infrastructure in generating employment and alleviating poverty. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav echoed this vision, calling it a road transport revolution under Gadkari's leadership.
While inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 10 national highway projects amounting to INR 5,800 crore in Madhya Pradesh last week, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari announced that the state's national highway network would exceed that of the United States within the next two years. He added that infrastructure projects worth INR 3 lakh crore would be completed across Madhya Pradesh in the coming year.
Speaking in Dhar at the ceremony, Gadkari affirmed his commitment to turning promises into reality, stating that he delivers on every assurance he makes. He referred to a quote attributed to former US President John F. Kennedy, which highlighted the economic importance of well-built roads, noting that American roads are not good because America is rich, but rather, America is rich because its roads are good. Gadkari asserted that Madhya Pradesh will soon reflect a similar transformation in infrastructure quality.
Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav was present at the event and was commended by Gadkari for his developmental mission. He noted that under Yadav's leadership, the state is witnessing visible progress across multiple sectors.
The Union Minister also reflected on the broader national landscape, pointing out that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he was entrusted with responsibility for national highways. Over the past 11 years, India has seen an unprecedented boom in the construction of roads, flyovers, and bridges.
He underlined that Madhya Pradesh is progressing swiftly, with infrastructure playing a pivotal role in this growth. According to Gadkari, industrial and business development thrives where there is robust access to water, power, transport, and communication. This, in turn, generates employment and tackles issues like hunger and poverty.
Reinforcing this idea, Gadkari reiterated his promise to ensure that infrastructure works worth INR 3 lakh crore are completed within a year in the state.
CM Mohan Yadav also addressed the gathering and remarked that under Gadkari's leadership, India's road sector is undergoing a massive transformation. He noted that while Indian roads once faced criticism for their poor condition, they are now being recognised for their improvements. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that India is on the path to becoming the global leader in road connectivity. He concluded by highlighting how rapid advancements in road infrastructure are significantly improving the lives of citizens.
This push for connectivity is more than just roads;it's about stimulating economic ecosystems across regions, promoting industrialisation, and ultimately reshaping the quality of life for citizens. If timelines are met, Madhya Pradesh could emerge as a national model for transport infrastructure.
