The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has announced two new housing projects in Sanapalla and Jagasara within Khurda district, offering affordable housing options for middle-income buyers. The decision, made during BDA's 150th authority meeting, comes as part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate urban development near Bhubaneswar. Furthermore, the BDA plans to expand its jurisdiction to include 143 new villages, which is expected to stimulate further private sector participation and address long-standing housing shortages.
In a significant move aimed at addressing the urgent need for affordable housing near Bhubaneswar, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has released two new housing projects in the Khurda district, specifically in the areas of Sanapalla and Jagasara. Announced during its 150th authority meeting, the initiative is aimed at providing much-needed relief to middle-income buyers who have long awaited government-led housing solutions in this part of the state.
The BDA's announcement has been welcomed by prospective homebuyers, who see the move as a step towards making quality housing more accessible. "Houses in government projects are comparatively affordable, which makes them highly sought after," said Minaketan Mohapatra, a prospective buyer who had previously missed out on similar opportunities. Mohapatra's remarks reflect the growing demand for affordable homes in the region, as rising property prices in the private market have limited the options for a vast number of residents.
The BDA is not only focused on these two projects but is also taking broader steps towards urban rejuvenation. In a strategic expansion of its operational territory, the BDA has proposed to extend its jurisdiction by incorporating 143 new villages. This expansion is expected to open up new avenues for real estate development and infrastructure improvement, thereby addressing the persistent shortage of affordable housing in the region. Industry analysts believe that this territorial expansion could trigger additional private sector initiatives and foster a more balanced development across both urban and rural areas.
Apart from the announcement of new projects, the meeting also emphasised the importance of improving public amenities and infrastructure. For instance, during the session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta commended the prompt initiation of development works in various parts of the region. Gupta reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that all pending issues, such as inadequate drainage, water supply challenges, and a lack of recreational facilities, are addressed swiftly in these redeveloped areas.
