Synopsis

Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has completed 18 of its 21 projects under the Smart City Mission, with three still in progress. The state government has directed NMSCDCL to transfer completed projects to Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC). NMSCDCL will complete two ongoing projects by April and finish the third by December. The initiative, valued at INR 1,122 crore, includes INR 175.74 crore under the PPP model. NMSCDCL has received INR 897.75 crore but awaits INR 48.51 crore from NMC. Upon completion, these projects will enhance Nashik's infrastructure, reinforcing sustainable urban development and transformation efforts.

Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) has yet to complete three of the 21 projects under the Smart City Mission, despite the program's term officially concluding on March 31. On March 28, the state government directed NMSCDCL to transfer the completed projects to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for further management. Under the Smart City Mission, NMSCDCL initiated 21 projects with a total investment of INR 1,000 crore. Of these, 18 projects, collectively valued at INR 650 crore, have reached completion, while three remain under development.

NMSCDCL CEO Sumant More confirmed that 15 of the completed projects have already been handed over to NMC, with the remaining three, including Goda Park and roadworks in gaothan areas, currently in the process of being transferred. Among the pending projects, two are progressing steadily and are expected to reach completion by the end of April, while the third is scheduled for completion by December. These projects will be formally handed over to NMC, ensuring their continued operation and maintenance, according to More.

Originally designed as a five-year initiative, the Smart City Mission was set to conclude in June 2022. However, the central government extended the program until March 31 of this year, providing additional time for the completion of ongoing projects. The total estimated cost for the 21 smart city projects stands at INR 1,122 crore. This includes INR 175.74 crore allocated for two projects-streetlight installation and solar panel implementation-executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The remaining 19 projects, collectively valued at INR 946.26 crore, have been financed by the smart city corporation.

NMSCDCL has received INR 897.75 crore in funding from the central and state governments, as well as from NMC. This comprises INR 465 crore from the central government, INR 232.75 crore from the state government, and INR 200 crore from NMC. However, NMC has yet to disburse INR 48.51 crore in outstanding funds. To date, NMSCDCL has spent INR 650 crore on various smart city initiatives.

With significant progress already achieved, the timely completion of the remaining projects remains a priority. The transition of completed projects to NMC will ensure their continued management and upkeep, reinforcing the city's commitment to urban development, promoting technological advancements, improving transportation networks, and enhancing infrastructure.
