Synopsis

Guntur district is undergoing a major road infrastructure upgrade with over INR 3,000 crore invested in key projects, including the Kondamodu-Perecherla Highway (INR 1,032.52 crore) and the expansion of NH 167-A from Vadarevu to Piduguralla (INR 1,064.24 crore). These developments aim to ease traffic, link Andhra Pradesh with Telangana, and promote beach tourism and exports from Chirala. Additional works like the Dachepalli-Macherla and Chilakaluripet-Nekarikallu highways are also progressing. With over 380 hectares under land acquisition, the region is set for improved interstate access, industrial growth, and better quality of life for residents across Palnadu, Bapatla, and beyond.

Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh is experiencing significant advancements in road infrastructure, aimed at enhancing connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and fostering economic growth in the region. Key projects include the upgrading of the Kondamodu-Perecherla Highway and the expansion of National Highway 167-A between Vadarevu and Piduguralla into a four-lane corridor.

The Kondamodu-Perecherla highway project focuses on upgrading a 49.91-kilometer stretch into a four-lane road, with an investment of INR 1,032.52 crore. This highway commences at NH 167A near Kondamodu, traverses through key areas such as Rajupalem, Reddigudem, Sattenapalli, and Medikonduru, and concludes at NH 544D near Perecherla. The initiative is designed to alleviate traffic congestion on the Guntur-Hyderabad corridor and enhance interstate connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Additionally, the highway will integrate with the Amaravati Outer Ring Road, further improving regional transportation networks.

Another pivotal project is the expansion of the 85-kilometer-long NH 167-A from a two-lane to a four-lane highway, with a budget allocation of INR 1,064.24 crore. This corridor links Vadarevu (Chirala) to Piduguralla, connecting vital highways such as the Addanki-Narketpalli Road at Nekarikallu, NH 216 at Chirala, and NH 16 near Chilakaluripet. The project is divided into two segments: Vadarevu to Chilakaluripet and Chilakaluripet to Nekarikallu. It also encompasses the construction of an 18-kilometer new road from Vadarevu to Eepuripalem and includes bypass roads in Parchur, Timmarajupalem, and Chilakaluripet to enhance accessibility. These developments are anticipated to boost marine product exports from Chirala, promote beach tourism between Bapatla and Vadarevu, and provide better connectivity to remote coastal areas.

To facilitate these projects, extensive land acquisition is underway, involving over 380 hectares across Palnadu and Bapatla districts. Specifically, 277.79 hectares are being acquired in Palnadu and 103 hectares in Bapatla, including 22.3 hectares of government-owned land. The acquisition process is progressing, with surveys completed and reports submitted to the central government.

Beyond these major highways, the region is witnessing other significant infrastructure developments such as the Dachepalli-Macherla State highway upgrade (NH 167AD). This project involves upgrading a 37-kilometer route into a four-lane highway, with an investment of INR 403.22 crore. In addition, a sum of INR 450 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the Chilakaluripet-Nekarikallu highway, aiming to improve regional connectivity and support local economic activities.

The concerted efforts in upgrading Guntur's road infrastructure underscore a commitment to regional development, promising substantial economic and social benefits for the area's residents and businesses.
