Synopsis

The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) will continue executing projects beyond the Smart City Mission, which ended on March 31. The Directorial Board approved amendments enabling the corporation to undertake works outside Nashik and secure assignments from government bodies. NMSCDCL has initiated plans to deploy more than 3,500 CCTV cameras for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, enhancing surveillance throughout the city. CEO Sumant More confirmed that surveys are underway to identify installation sites. Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam chaired the meeting, attended by key officials who endorsed expanding NMSCDCL's operational scope to ensure financial self-sufficiency and future growth.

Although the Smart City Mission officially concluded on March 31 this year, the Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) will continue executing projects both within and beyond the city's boundaries. On Friday, the Directorial Board of NMSCDCL approved a proposal to amend its operational guidelines, enabling the corporation to execute works outside the scope of the Smart City Mission. With this decision, NMSCDCL can now secure projects from various government bodies across different regions, beyond the original mission framework.

The corporation plans to install more than 3,500 CCTV cameras across Nashik, enhancing surveillance measures for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. This significant project aims to strengthen surveillance infrastructure and assist authorities in managing the anticipated large crowds during the event. Following the mission's conclusion, the central government directed smart city corporations to achieve financial self-sustainability by leveraging their technical expertise and offering consultancy services.

With the newly approved amendment, NMSCDCL will have the authority to engage in projects outside Nashik and participate in tenders related to the Kumbh Mela or other public works. Sumant More, CEO of NMSCDCL, confirmed that the corporation had already commenced a survey to determine strategic locations for CCTV installation. These efforts intend to enhance public safety, streamline surveillance operations, and ensure efficient crowd management during the Kumbh Mela festivities.

The divisional commissioner of Nashik, Praveen Gedam, presided over the board meeting where these critical decisions were finalized. Other key attendees included Nashik Municipal Corporation commissioner Manisha Khatri, district collector Jalaj Sharma, and several directors of the smart city corporation, all of whom contributed to shaping the corporation's expanded operational mandate beyond the initial Smart City Mission objectives. With the revised guidelines, NMSCDCL aims to extend its technical capabilities beyond the Smart City Mission, ensuring that its expertise contributes to broader public infrastructure projects in the coming years.
