Earlier this week, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) concluded its drive offering a 10% rebate to property owners who cleared their tax dues before the end of the month. This incentive was introduced to encourage prompt payments and support ongoing civic development projects. With the deadline now passed, the LMC has revised the rebate structure offering 8% for online payments and 6% for offline ones going forward. To ease the process, the civic body had set up multiple digital and physical channels for tax submission, emphasising the city's shift towards smart and efficient governance.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) had recently urged citizens to clear their property tax dues before the end of last month to avail a 10% rebate on payments. The initiative was part of an annual campaign to promote early compliance and boost the city's revenue for critical infrastructure projects.
With the deadline now lapsed, the rebate has been revised. From the start of this week, property owners are eligible for an 8% rebate on online payments and a 6% rebate if paying through offline modes at zonal cash counters. This shift reflects the civic body's ongoing effort to promote digital payments while still providing some benefit to those who pay in person.
To make the process more accessible, the LMC had set up a range of payment options. Citizens could pay via the official website (lmc.up.nic.in), dedicated WhatsApp numbers, and links sent through SMS. Additionally, physical payment counters were operational at various HDFC and Axis Bank branches, offering flexibility for both tech-savvy and conventional taxpayers.
Municipal Commissioner Manoj Kumar had earlier highlighted that the collected tax revenue would directly fund efforts to enhance the city's civic infrastructure. He had stated that citizen contributions would play a vital role in making Lucknow cleaner, more organised, and technologically advanced.
In past years, similar campaigns have shown a spike in last-minute payments, often resulting in congestion at counters and technical glitches on digital platforms. This year, the LMC appeared better prepared, with added emphasis on digital platforms and customer support to streamline the payment experience.
As Lucknow continues its journey toward becoming a smarter city, the active involvement of its citizens in such initiatives will be crucial in sustaining long-term development and maintaining robust urban infrastructure. Proactive compliance not only brings individual savings but also powers collective progress.
