The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to redevelop its four-decade-old residential complex in Nagpur's Civil Lines area, marking a significant real estate initiative. The project, located behind the Regional Transport Office (RTO), is progressing through discussions with residents, with several meetings already held. The redevelopment aims to modernize aging infrastructure and enhance urban housing. This effort is part of broader plans to improve Nagpur's housing infrastructure, including providing 5,000 homes to power plant workers and permanent housing to slum dwellers under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is preparing to redevelop its aging residential complex in Nagpur's Civil Lines area. Situated behind the Regional Transport Office (RTO), this project is poised to be one of the city's most significant redevelopment initiatives.
Constructed over four decades ago, the complex comprises hundreds of apartments. MHADA's Nagpur chief officer, Maheshkumar Meghmale, indicated that discussions with residents are progressing, with approximately four meetings held to date. Residents have shown interest in initiating the redevelopment process. Once a final decision is reached, MHADA plans to commence the project.
The land's prime location in Civil Lines makes it highly valuable from a real estate perspective. MHADA is conducting thorough groundwork to ensure the redevelopment proceeds without legal complications.
In related developments, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced plans to provide over 5,000 houses to contractual employees of the Koradi and Khaparkheda power plants under the central government's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Additionally, efforts are underway to offer permanent housing to all slum dwellers in Nagpur city. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has begun collecting data on slum residents to facilitate this initiative. The Maharashtra government has already secured approval for 20 lakh houses under PMAY and is seeking sanction for an additional 10 lakh units.
The redevelopment of MHADA's Civil Lines project aligns with broader efforts to enhance urban housing infrastructure in Nagpur. By modernizing existing structures and expanding housing availability, these initiatives aim to address the city's growing residential needs.
