The Telangana government has unveiled plans to establish a sprawling IT Knowledge Hub spanning 450 acres in Puppalaguda, Hyderabad. This initiative aims to generate employment for approximately 500,000 individuals. The designated land comprises nearly 200 acres previously allocated to various housing societies, now reclaimed following a Supreme Court directive, and an additional 250 acres owned by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC). The project, free from encumbrances, is poised to bolster Hyderabad's stature as a premier IT destination.
In a strategic move to amplify Hyderabad's position in the global IT landscape, the Telangana government has announced the development of an expansive IT Knowledge Hub over 450 acres in Puppalaguda. This ambitious project is projected to create employment opportunities for around 500,000 individuals, reinforcing the state's commitment to technological advancement and economic growth. The land earmarked for this hub includes approximately 200 acres that were previously allotted to various housing societies during the tenure of earlier administrations. These allocations were recently annulled by the Supreme Court, thereby reverting the land to government control. An additional 250 acres, adjacent to the reclaimed land, is under the ownership of the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC).
The decision to proceed with this development was reached during a cabinet subcommittee meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, with Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu in attendance. Vikramarka indicated that discussions centered on available land parcels for the knowledge park, with officials confirming their availability. He noted that the state cabinet would make final decisions regarding land allotments and the hub's development.
Historically, the region around Gachibowli has been a focal point for IT infrastructure development. The initial foundation for Hyderabad's IT sector was laid in Hi-Tec City by then Chief Minister N Janardhan Reddy, with subsequent expansions into financial districts and neighboring areas. The current initiative in Puppalaguda continues this legacy, aiming to attract global IT firms and foster innovation.
The land designated for the Puppalaguda Knowledge Hub is fully developed and devoid of legal or environmental encumbrances, such as forest land disputes or unauthorized encroachments. While the government has not explicitly stated whether the land will be auctioned or directly allotted to IT companies, sources suggest a preference for auctioning substantial parcels, mirroring strategies employed by previous administrations.
The initiative not only promises to invigorate the local economy but also positions Hyderabad as a formidable contender in the global IT arena. As the project unfolds, it will be imperative for the government to ensure transparent processes and sustainable development practices to realize its full potential.
