Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (TTDI), a subsidiary of Japan-based Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Telangana government earlier this week to invest INR 562 crore in expanding its manufacturing operations in Hyderabad. The agreement, signed in Tokyo in the presence of Telangana CM Anumula Revanth Reddy, marks a step forward in Toshiba's long-standing commitment to India. The expansion aims to create over 250 direct jobs within three years and will enhance the company's assembly, testing, and export capabilities, aligning with 'Make in India' and 'Export from India' missions.
Toshiba Energy Systems, through its Indian subsidiary Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (TTDI), has committed to investing approximately INR 562 crore to expand its manufacturing base in Telangana. The company entered into a memorandum of understanding with the state government earlier this week, solidifying its plans to scale operations in Hyderabad. The signing took place in Tokyo in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of TTDI.
This investment is part of Toshiba's broader commitment to India and follows a previously declared capital allocation of JPY 10 billion for its Indian operations. The expansion will reinforce Toshiba's manufacturing presence in the country, with the company aiming to contribute significantly to local employment and skill development. Furuta noted that the support from the Telangana government would help the company advance its production capabilities while delivering quality and sustainable energy solutions globally.
The proposed investment is anticipated to create over 250 direct employment opportunities over a three-year period beginning from the current financial year. Additionally, TTDI and the state authorities have agreed to jointly explore future prospects for industrial diversification, innovation, and talent development to further boost the regional industrial ecosystem.
The agreement also reaffirms Toshiba's strategic alignment with India's 'Make in India' and 'Export from India' initiatives. The expansion will focus on strengthening the company's transformer assembly and testing capacities to meet the growing domestic demand and enhance its export reach.
A major component of the plan involves establishing a modern, integrated facility to streamline production processes, reduce lead times, and boost efficiency, safety, and quality. TTDI's products, including India-manufactured transformers, have already reached more than 50 countries, reinforcing the company's role as a key exporter in the global transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment sector.
By combining capital investment with skill-building initiatives, the company is poised to generate tangible economic and social value. The planned expansion supports India's push for domestic production and exports while reinforcing Toshiba's global leadership in transmission and distribution technology.
